Question: Does the US gov't issue convertable bonds?

The apparent highest credit lender in the world seems like a solid investment (some have reason to say otherwise as of late) however while investing in corporate Convertible Bonds you can trade them on the market and find deals where yield is greater then coupon... what about gov bonds? do they operate the same or is it simply 30 year gov bond, 3% annual and principal returned in 30 year?

Answer: Just plain old bonds. I believe at one time may years ago you could convert them into gold but not any longer.
